The pre-anaesthetic visit is where the real work happens: your heart, lungs, airway, allergies, sugars and every medicine you take are reviewed, and the anaesthetic plan is built around what that review finds rather than around the operation alone.
There is no walk-in OPD and no consultation fee here. This consultant is booked through the surgical team once an operation is planned, and the pre-anaesthetic assessment is arranged as part of it - which is why the front desk, not the online diary, is the way to reach this clinic.
The other half of the job is the intensive care unit and the recovery room: airway management, ventilation, sedation and pain relief for patients who are critically ill, whichever department admitted them.
