Most of this work is reconstruction, not cosmetics. Road traffic injuries, machine injuries to the hand, burns, and wounds that will not close are the everyday list - and in each case the question is the same: how do we get skin, blood supply and function back over an area that has lost them.
Timing matters more here than in almost any other speciality. A hand injury seen on the day can often be repaired; the same injury seen after three weeks of dressings has usually stiffened into a different, harder operation. Burns are the same - early, correct dressing decides how much scarring there is to revise later.
Cosmetic work is done, and it is discussed the same way as everything else: what the procedure can realistically change, what it cannot, what the recovery is honestly like, and what it costs before anything is booked.
