(01)About gynaecology

What this clinicis actually for.

Women's health here runs as continuous care rather than separate appointments: the doctor who confirms a pregnancy is the one at the delivery, and the same clinic handles the years before and after. A great deal of what comes through the door - heavy periods, PCOS, the changes around menopause - has been endured for years because it was assumed to be normal. It usually isn't, and it usually responds to treatment.

Done in-house, usually the same day: Antenatal · Delivery · Scan

When to wait, and when not to.

Come in straight away if

Don't book an appointment for these. Come to emergency, or call +91 9100005195.

  • Any bleeding during pregnancy, at any stage
  • Severe headache, blurred vision or sudden swelling of face and hands in later pregnancy
  • Reduced or absent baby movements after the seventh month - come in the same day
  • Fever with foul-smelling discharge, or heavy bleeding after a delivery
  • Periods soaking through protection hourly, or bleeding after menopause

Lowering the risk

What actually makes a difference, not folklore.

  • Start folic acid before conceiving, not after the test is positive
  • Keep every antenatal appointment - most complications are caught at a routine visit
  • Cervical screening from 30, then as advised; it prevents a cancer rather than finding one
  • Learn how to examine your own breasts, and report any new lump without waiting
  • Iron and calcium through pregnancy - anaemia is common here and entirely treatable

Looking after yourself

Alongside treatment - never instead of it.

  • In pregnancy: small frequent meals, plenty of water, and rest on your left side
  • Count baby movements daily in the third trimester and know your usual pattern
  • Never take any medicine, including home remedies, without asking during pregnancy
  • After delivery, ask for help early if you feel low or unable to cope - it is common and treatable
  • Keep your scan reports and antenatal card together, and bring them to every visit

This page is general information, not a diagnosis. It cannot account for your history, your medicines or your test results, and it is no substitute for being examined. If something here matches what you're experiencing, that is a reason to see a doctor - not a reason to treat yourself.
