What Dr G. Manjithun does
Head injury is the emergency half of this service. On a national highway corridor that means it arrives at all hours, and what matters is speed: a scan, a decision, and a theatre that is already staffed. A clot pressing on the brain is a different operation at two hours than at eight.
The planned half is mostly spine. Slipped discs, canal narrowing and nerve compression that has stopped responding to physiotherapy and injections - and the honest position on all of them is that most back pain never needs a surgeon. What gets operated is the pain that runs down a limb, the weakness that is progressing, and the bladder or bowel change that must be treated the same day.
Brain tumours, hydrocephalus and congenital spine problems are managed alongside neurology in the same block, so the medical and surgical opinions are formed on the same films rather than sequentially in two buildings.

- Keyhole removal of the disc fragment pressing on a nerve, for leg pain that has not settled.
- Spinal decompression and fusion
- Making room for a compressed cord or nerve, and stabilising the segment where needed.

- For neck disc disease causing arm pain, hand clumsiness or difficulty walking.
